The Rowan Rose Society was organized April 16, 1956 for the purpose of ”disseminating
information, to encourage interest in the cultivation of roses and to spread the love of the Rose.”
Our members’ experience ranges from beginners to those who have been growing roses for more than
40 years.
Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of February, March, April, May, September,
October & November at 7:00 p.m. at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 1620 Brenner Ave. In June
a picnic is held at the home of a Rose Society member.
Meetings always include a program on rose care. Programs cover a wide variety of rose-related
topics such as building a new bed, pruning, fertilizing, information on the newest varieties of roses,
disease and insect protection, effective watering systems and more.
Several of our members are ARS-qualified Consulting Rosarians who are available to help with
specific rose problems.
The Society maintains the Triangle Rose Garden on West Innes Street in front of Summerset Funeral
Home. This garden was established in April 1976 and is dedicated “to the Citizens of Salisbury and
Rowan County for their enjoyment and for the Beautification of our area.” We sponsor a rose
pruning demonstration at the Triangle garden each March.
The Rowan Rose Society hosts a Rose Show each year. The public is invited to enter roses to be
judged or stop by on Saturday and Sunday afternoons after the judging is complete and enjoy the
beautiful prize winning roses. Admission is free.
